Dedicated to a true "Heart Hero" Meet Heath

About the book

Giraffes in My Closet  tells the tale of three giraffes who find their home in a closet when an unsuspecting boy accidentally leaves his closet door open one night. That night, Mildred, Seth and Emily sneak inside and take up residence in his closet. And once inside, the boy discovers that these gentle giants who often feel awkward and are really quite shy, quickly become comfortable in their new home, their new hiding place, and are almost impossible to get out.

Giraffes in My Closet is so very “Dr. Suess” with so much sophisticated language and thought. It is perfect for engaging young children, and the illustrations bring all of the words to life.

Love it! Love the story, and I know the kids will enjoy the words and the illustrations. It is one of those books that has so many great messages for kids.

No doubt, it will become a favorite read aloud for younger kids, AND young readers will choose it over and over again. Children, parents, and teachers will enter into engaging discussions about the plot, rich vocabulary, and beautiful illustrations. Teachers will be so excited about the many lessons drawn from it, such as making connections, predicting, summarizing, writing different endings and creating new chapters.

For Heath Naumann

A 6-year-old “Heart Hero”, who has had multiple heart surgeries in his young life.

When Heath Naumann was born, his parents were thrilled their third son had arrived, but they had learned early on Heath had a severe congenital heart defect – Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Without surgery, Heath would not survive, as he had no left ventricle which, in turn, means oxygen flow is impossible without multiple surgeries, countless medications, constant care, and ultimately a heart transplant, if he could make it to that point.

Heath’s mom and dad, Lacy and Bert Naumann, and his two older brothers, Ace and Marshall, knew if Heath made it through the first few days and the first heart surgery at only five days old, that was only the beginning.

“So much of what we lived through – those first few days and the seven months after – was a blur,” recalls Heath’s mom. “But, we’ll never forget, from the first moment we saw Heath, we were so honored to be the parents of this tiny, heroic boy. He was our miracle.”

Heath Naumann made it. He is now six years old and continues on his heroic journey, living life to the fullest each and every day. At For Kid’s Sake, we celebrate Heath, his family and all of those who have helped him along his path. Heath Naumann is a true Heart Hero.
